I’ve always had a passion for Canadian, community-driven stories. I began my career as a writer by earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature at TMU. My ability to recognize necessary stories, essential issues, and underrepresented voices inspired me to write Canadian book reviews for TMU’s creative journal, White Wall Review. My practical experience in writing, editing, and publishing, paired with my managerial and decision-making skills, has led to my current position as a Poetry Editor. In this role, I’ve championed the storytelling of Canada’s diverse population, including voices from marginalized groups that are often overlooked by traditional forms of storytelling.
After graduating with a BA (Honours), I was drawn to journalism with the aim of developing my skills in reporting, editing, and fact-checking, while learning to incorporate my analytical and cultural awareness into digital media production. I have since honed my abilities in digital, audio, and video production to tell captivating multimedia stories through various digital and social media channels, including Adobe Creative Cloud, Canva, Microsoft Suite, and WordPress. Throughout my degree, I’ve grown increasingly dedicated to crafting engaging human-interest stories and assisting students in securing their first bylines and publication opportunities.
In addition to the White Wall Review, I also work for two other TMU student publications. As the Front-of-Book editor for the Review of Journalism, I’ve recognized and supported students in creating compelling arts and culture stories. As Chief Copy Editor for The Otter, I’ve ensured that students’ stories are not only clear to readers and free from typographical errors but also stand out effectively.
Last summer, I worked as an Editorial Intern at the National Post, where I had the opportunity to contribute 25 stories in just six weeks—one-third of which made it onto the Top 5 trending list. This experience sharpened my ability to work efficiently under tight deadlines while upholding a high standard of quality in my writing. In this role, I received praise for the strength and originality of my ideas, which not only distinguished me from the web team but also taught me how to navigate polarized issues responsibly.
In my work, I strive to capture the unique challenges, contributions, and vibrant energy of Canada’s citizens, telling the stories that shape the nation’s character by leveraging the resources and skills I’ve gained through my personal journalism experience.
